I saw Today’s Special, starring Aasif Mandvi, yesterday. I don’t have a lot of deep thoughts about it: it wasn’t groundbreaking (it followed the classic storytelling formula exactly, and I could predict every event), but it was very upbeat and cute. It’s also refreshing to see an actor of color in the lead role, re-learning his culture and re-connecting with his family through Indian cuisine. If you need a feel-good movie to cheer you up, this would fit the bill.
