As the Occupy Wall Street movement spreads across the nation, so does its message resound across groups of the underrepresented. Filipino Americans have joined the protestors in San Francisco’s financial district as they demand accountability from political leaders to take responsibility for the economic crisis that continues to harm everyday people (known as the 99%) who have suffered long-term unemployment and have had their social services reduced. The Filipino-American protesters in the Occupy Wall Street movement are asking not only to be acknowledged, but also for change to a broken system that has crippled those who are not part of the upper-class.
