The Asian Pacific American Media Coalition released its Report Card for Television Diversity a day or two ago, focusing on the representation of the APA community on major networks such as ABC and NBC, both on-screen and behind the scenes.
As you can see, the grades aren’t exactly stellar. The only A’s are for NBC and CBS, in Procurement and Network Commitment to Diversity Initiatives. The number of APAs working off-screen, as directors, writers, etc., has seen a decrease this year as well. Fortunately, the number of APA actors cast in regular prime-time roles increased by four to 37, and the APMAC sees an improvement on diversity. There’s still work to be done, of course–I, for one, would love to see a prime-time show with an APA actor in lead roles, not just supporting ones.
