Filep Karma, an advocate for Indonesia’s indigenous Papua group, is currently serving a fifteen-year prison sentence. His crime? Raising the Papuan Morning Star flag. A few years ago, he and two hundred others raised the flag. Police then stormed the crowd, arresting Filep Karma. They reportedly beat and stomped on him while transporting him to the police station. Filep Karma has been a prisoner of conscience for six years now, incarcerated simply for exercising his right to freedom of expression.

Editor’s Note: Amnesty International is looking for donations in its effort to secure Filep Karma’s Release through this link.
